Naruko onsen
04/24/2007
After leaving Sendai, I kept heading north toward Hiraizumi. I made a brief stop at Naruko onsen because I wanted to relax, especially since I was still sick. I had a nice surprise at the station:

Can you see it? Well, as the name suggests, in Naruko onsen there are...onsens! And at the right, just behind the bench, there is a small pool containing natural hot spring water and used as a foot bath:

Pretty cool, isn't it?! Also, I met three nice Japanese girls who were using the same "facilities". Of course, I didn't go to Naruko onsen only for its station and its foot bath, and spent an hour or so at one of the numerous baths nearby. And I ended up at another tiny one, only slightly larger that the one I went to near Sendai.
I arrived at Hiraizumi in late afternoon and found a quiet and welcoming ryokan to stay for the night. And this time I actually chilled out, as Hiraizumi is in the countryside and there's absolutely nothing to do there at night...Oh, something funny, I came across this board for the regional elections:

When I saw the picture of the candidate at the upper right, I thought it was a joke but no! I saw the same guy on tv later that day:

At the bottom, written in katakana: "The great Sasuke"! Awesome!!!
