First steps in Japan
10/02/2006
I have finally arrived! The Seoul-Nagoya flight was very enjoyable, there were so many unoccupied seats that I could comfortably lie down.
Upon landing, I took the bus to Okazaki where I was greeted and taken to the school to validate my registration. I have to take a placement test in two days, which will determine my class, therefore I'll probably be reviewing tomorrow.
I'm staying at a residence called "Student village". The name fits well, it feels like a university dormitory except it is very clean. My room however is tiny and I was disappointed at first...I don't think I even have 100 square feet!...I was thinking about posting some pictures but it really won't be necessary. Anyway, a couple hours later, I had already got used to it. I also have an Internet access in my room and that's really convenient! Not to mention the convenience store located right next to the residence, it's not even 150 feet from the chair I'm sitting on right now. And, last but not least, a typical Japanese detail: shoes must be taken off so everyone is in socks inside.
I met a couple other students in the common areas and even though it feels quite empty for the moment, it should change in the next few days, by the time the next semester starts. The atmosphere is great by the way and there is also something I really appreciate: it seems that everyone is making the effort of speaking Japanese, only resorting to English when necessary. My first impression is that it is a really good environment to study and improve!
I went out in the evening to buy some food, and it was just awesome...I can't describe how I felt, but the mere fact of being in Japan was fantastic, even though I was still not realizing it.
I was getting hungry and since I had not got my bearings yet, I bought a bento (lunch box) at a nearby supermarket, very basic but it was such a pleasure to eat a tonkatsu and some good sushi rolls...
That's it for today! Besides, here are two pictures taken in Paris right before leaving with my girlfriend, who I miss a lot, and some of my best friends.

And finally, world exclusive pictures of the top floor of Nagoya airport...It looks like Disneyland!
